Our Purpose

I’ve always believed that owners of large farms are kin to owners of any other multi-million dollar business. They share the same challenges of building and motivating cultures and teams of employees, ensuring processes are in place to drive efficiencies, and producing high quality products that their customers value.

Black Dirt Daily was created to serve a small part of the information needs of the owners of those large farms. By providing daily market updates, farmers can stay in touch with what drives their markets. But there’s more to BDD than that. There’s articles, videos, podcasts that carry insights on how to manage the challenges of owning a multi-million-dollar business. Everything from managing people to refining processes, adjusting to policy changes and technology trends, and so much more.

So what makes us qualified to do this? Well, we’ve been around awhile. Ag communications has been my career for more than 35 years. I grew up on a farm, and I even tried managing one for awhile. I’ve talked to hundreds of farmers across kitchen tables and office desks, and in farm trucks, tractors, semis, milking parlors, feed alleys, outside manure pits and just about anywhere else you can think of. That doesn’t make me an expert, but it does give me empathy for the work that happens on farms every day. And I hope that through this website we’re delivering content that educates and entertains, and maybe makes a small difference.

Enjoy and, above all, let us know what you think.
