Confirmed cases of New World screwworm in the U.S. have declined sharply over the past 30 days. Through July 30, USDA confirmed only 12 cases of NWS over the past month. That’s a far cry from the 31 cases reported in June.

“The New World Screwworm was eradicated from America in 1966. In 2026, it tried to come back—and we were ready,” Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said in a July 28 social media post. “That's why USDA acted before it reached our border—investing over $1 billion, ramping up sterile fly production, and preparing an aggressive response.”For the full article click here
