What To Know Before This Week’s WASDE Report

A Successful Farming article

The September USDA World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report is due Friday, Sept. 11. Going into the report, here is what farmers need to know about the U.S. corn, soybean, and wheat markets, and what Grain Market Insider will be looking for in the updated balance sheets.

The August WASDE report showed U.S. old-crop corn carryout decreasing by 75 million bushels and old-crop soybean stocks decreasing by 5 million bushels. The new-crop ending stocks estimate for corn decreased by 137 million bushels. Soybean ending stocks increased by 10 million bushels. Wheat stocks declined by 5 million bushels.

The September WASDE report will include objective survey data from the National Agricultural Statistics Service, including plant population and ears per acre for corn in the 10 largest corn-producing states. It will also consider regional weather variations and rely less on statistical modeling.
